Many legislators participated virtually from home. The State Capitol remained closed to the public and only a few people were permitted in the chambers.

If appointed, I hope to give my colleagues the same opportunities that I have had during my career. In late July, the State Legislature returned to Albany for four days of a remote Legislative Session to address local bills, confirmation of appointees to State bodies, and a number of policy issues. Continuing NYSSLHA’s work in making our voices heard, and educating our young professionals in the risks and trials that are before them I believe to be most critical. We need unity of ancillary providers to strengthen our presence at the national, state, and regional levels. Monumental changes in healthcare demands placed on our professions as ancillary providers make our greatest issues clear. Now a Director at UR Medicine Audiology, I desire to further vest my efforts to advance CDS professions in New York State.

at University of Rochester’s Simon School of Business. I joined University of Rochester Medicine in Rochester, NY in 2004. I have held NYS Audiology and Dispensing licensure for over 11 years. My 4th year was spent in the Hudson Valley where I concurrently worked as a summer and substitute speech-language teacher. class to graduate from University of Buffalo. I went on to be part of the first residential Au.D. From East Aurora, NY, I later graduated from SUNY College at Geneseo. New York State has always been close to my heart. This includes reviewing and expanding our benefits, providing convenient and affordable continuing education across New York State, and having a board that is accessible to you, our most valuable commodity.Ĭhristy Monczynski-Hopson, AuD, MS, CCC-A Office of the Professions practice guidelines.įinally, I feel that I can provide a strong level of leadership that will help NYSSLHA to continue to find new and innovative ways to meet the needs of our members. I feel that it’s important to provide our membership with resources and educational materials to share with both clients and employers that includes information regarding both scope of practice and scope of competency, as well as evidence-based practice consistent with the N.Y.S.

In addition, I would like to assist NYSSLHA in promoting our sister professions by educating the public about what we do. Equally important is the need to fight against legislation that will negatively impact our ability to provide quality treatment to our clients, threaten our livelihoods, and/or minimize the roles of speech-language pathologists and audiologists by other lobbying groups and/or state mandates. I will also continue to work with our outstanding lobbyists, Reid, McNally, and Savage, to support legislation that is in the best interest of our professions. As President-Elect of NYSSLHA, I will continue to protect the professions of speech-language pathology and audiology by advocating for fair and ethical practice standards for both of our fields.
